The AM Show: Ten years of the Syrian War

It’s been almost ten years since the start of the Syrian war and despite fading from the headlines the conflict continues.

It all began with protests against President Bashar al-Assad and since then it’s left Syria, Russia and Turkey in a gridlock of power and millions of people in need of aid.

It’s estimated more than 12 million Syrians still need humanitarian assistance such as medicine or food, and nearly 3 million of these people live in hard-to-reach areas.

Tens of thousands of civilians remain forcibly detained in Syria while thousands more have been subjected to torture, sexual violence, or death in detention.

The death toll over the last decade ranges from one to two hundred thousand and the scale of this killing field is indisputable.

ReliefAid Executive Director Mike Seawright spoke to The AM Show.
